Sharing my Epic news

Hey, Everyone. I've been so busy lately I've had to schedule a time to breathe. Why so busy? Well, let me share. You all know I love to do that.

1. This is a big one. You know how I published a book last year. And then a novella. And then another book. Well, I thought, because of something else big that's happening in my life right now that I'll share in the next section, I could try to submit my work to a publisher. You know, the whole doing-it-all-by-yourself thing was empowering and all but oh so much work. So, I submitted Finding Me. And waited. And waited some more. Then I received an email that said I was ACCEPTED. **Throws confetti. Waves and shouts and does a little dance** I had to read it a few times to make sure they were really talking about me and that they were serious. They were. I'm super excited about this new venture. I'll be re-releasing the first two books in the trilogy. Unfortunately, the third book will be pushed back a little. But no worries. It is complete and ready for editing. So now I can officially say I’m with Booktrope Publishing!

2. That other big news I had...I'm in school again. I decided to get my masters degree in Library Science since I hadn't hit the million dollar mark yet on my book sells. :) *crossing fingers -just one more carefully worded tweet* I am a perpetual nerd sucking up all the information I can so it was only a matter of time before I made the decision to return to school. Plus, honestly, me and the day job are not on speaking terms right now. Seriously! So wish me luck and giant mugs of extra rich coffee.

3. I wrote two short stories that will be featured in two different anthologies. Both are releasing in October. *You know what I was doing this summer. Wearin' out them keys* I'm really excited about them both, but I'm especially excited that one is an adult horror piece. As everyone knows, I write YA fantasy, so this was a big deal for me. I loved it. I'll share more on the two anthologies in a later post. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you'll see the teasers start to pop up.

Well, that's it for me...because my face just hit the keyboard I'm so tired. **Wipes drool evidence from the “A” key.** What have you all been up to?

Randomness Anyone

Hey Peps! It's been crunch time for me. I've been whippin' my WIP into shape so I've been low-key on the blog. So I thought I'd ramble about what's been up. Please share your 'what's been up' also in the comments.

1. Whippin' the WIP - I love the last book in my series, Becoming Me. Tomorrow I'm sending it off to my betas Eeek! This story has everything: action, romance, suspense...can't wait for the world to read the conclusion to this story.

2. My oldest daughter (19 yr. old) left a little over a week ago for camp. She's a counselor for the summer. This is the longest she's been away and we're all a little sad. But she's doing one more year at the local college then transferring so I guess we'd better get used to it. Sigh, you want them to leave but then you don't.

3. I am collaborating with two author groups that I'm in on an anthology. I'm writing one for release some time in September and another around Halloween. More on those later. But I'm super excited about them both.

4. I've decided to....drum roll please... go back and get my Master's Degree. Gah! I know, right. School. More school. I'm going to get my Master's in Library Science. I can't put it off any more. It's just time. I'm nervous, though.

5. I receive notifications for new videos for Joanna Penn of The Creative Penn. She had an awesome video that Indie and traditionally published authors might want to watch. Here is the link. I would recommend subscribing to her channel. She's a wealth of information and her guests are great.

What about you? What have you got going on? Share please!

Randomness

I've been busy writing and trying to promote my work. Trying. Oh yes, trying. Let me inject a hearty laugh here *bwhahahaha* It's tough to be an Indie Author. Well, no. It's not. It's tough to do it all. All. All of it by yourself. *inject a look of delirium here* But I wouldn't trade this job for nothing *yes, I meant 'nothing'*

I thought I'd share what's been going on with me.

1. I'm working on the final book in the Finding Me trilogy. It's coming on nicely and I love how my characters have changed. It has a great story arch. But I might be biased in my assessment. To keep me honest, everyone should run out and grab a copy of the first two books and companion novella.

2. I'm being featured on Platypire Reviews site for two weeks. I'm actually taking over the Platypire Facebook page tomorrow. Eeek! I mean today. Come listen to me talk books, movies, and superheroes.

3. I don't really have Valentines plans. *Gasp* I'm tired. I told my hubby that I wanted didn't want to go out at all on Saturday. I might go see a movie on Friday - not sure yet.

4. The hubs and I went bowling with a few friends on this past weekend. I didn't bowl. I sat in a corner and read. But I was very personable and talked politely whenever someone came over to rudely interrupt my reading. It was nice seeing old friends.

Musical Inspiration

Okay, yes, I'm being lazy. But it's because I'm being productive. I'm writing. I just crossed over the 15K mark on my third book. WOOHOO!!!

So, for your enjoyment, the musical selection tonight will be one of my favorites: I Choose You by Sara Bareilles. Enjoy!

RANDOMNESS...SORT OF

Well, it's a couple days away now...my release. And I am so excited I can barely contain myself.

But I'm not here today to talk about that. Today I just want to share what else has been going on. I'll bombard you with information on Finding Me on Wednesday. I promise. *no seriously, I will* So I'm not going to mention Finding Me again in this post. I'll just list random tidbits:

1. I met Colleen Hoover, author of Slammed, Hopeless, Losing Hope, Maybe Someday... She came to a local bookstore in Texas. It was awesome. She was amazing and just as cool as she seems online. She talked about her books the entire time *of course what else was she supposed to talk about? My book, Finding Me. Not!* Yeah, I took a picture with her and I...I just can't bring myself to post it. I'm not photogenic and it takes me forever to take a pic I'd be proud for others to see. Needless to say, this was not one. I'll spare your eyes the agony. Me and photos are like peanut butter and broccoli... Exactly!

2. I finally saw Divergent. It was awesome! I never fool myself anymore into going to the theatre to see a book that I loved made into a movie and expecting all my favorite parts to by present in the watered down version. That is what a film of a book is...a less than version. Not necessarily a bad thing but I guess that depends on who you ask. Ask me: I loved it. It stayed true to the story enough to appease me. But I must admit there were a few times, I had to scratch my head and say, "is that what happened in the book?" The acting was solid though and Tobias (Four) was swoon worthy. Nough for me! Well, the story was good, too! It kinda reminds me of another really great story...Find...*I won't say it*

 3. Here is a recap of my reading: I read the last book in the Matched series - Reached. I liked this one better than the previous book but not as much as the first. The conclusion was less than perfect but the author did try to tie up loose ends and bring some resolution for the main characters. I also read Campus Crush by Askelyn Drake *I'm blushing (if that's possible) right now.* It was a great read. I would have loved to attend this college but not too certain I want my senior daughter to go there. But if you want a steamy, flutter of the belly book, you need to read this one. Finally, I started the Hyde series by Lauren Stewart. I love the idea of Jekyl and Hyde in an urban environment. I was in the process of reading the second book in the series, Jeckyl but stopped to read an authors book - two actually. I so love to read almost as much as I loved writing Finding Me *sorry, that was a slip*.

What have you been up to? Any interesting books? I'm always open to recommendations. My TBR list will never be too full. Umm, if you get a minute, can you please add that book I said I wouldn't mention that will release officially on April 2 to your TBR on Goodreads. Pretty please.

RANDOMNESS

I'm rambling today....

1. For my children summer is over. They went back today and I'm partly happy and partly sad. My oldest daughter is starting her senior year. My middle child, my son, is going to the 8th grade. And my youngest daughter is starting 4th grade. They are growing up so quickly. It's hard for me to wrap my head and my heart around the idea that my oldest daughter will be leaving in a year.

2. It's nice to have older children because I get them to help fill-out the gazillion forms they bring home. My husband says the same thing every year, "Oh. You should have asked me to help with all those papers." This offer is posed after I have blisters on my fingers and they ooze blood...

3. I could really use a giant piece of chocolate fudge cake with chocolate fudge icing. But I think I'll stick to my favorite candy - York Peppermint Patties. I should probably buy stock in the company I eat them so much!

4. I'm currently sending one of my MS out on submissions. I'm so nervous. I hate the waiting game, but I know it's necessary. I'm just glad I haven't taken up biting my nails. Yet.

What's going on in your world?

MY HORRIBLE DAY

Sorry, I missed my post day, yesterday. I had a terrible day. It started when I first opened my eyes. Late for work. My mood was instantly foul. I tried to shake it. To snap myself out of it.  Eventually, I gave in to it and sulked to the office.

Once I got there, I decided to glance at my personal email. I shouldn’t have done that. Sitting there, nice and innocent, was a message from Facebook stating that I’d been tagged in a post. Oh, wow. Some writerly wisdom, perhaps. Or an adorable pic of one of my nieces or nephews to lift my sprits.

Nope. It was a message from a family member regarding another family member… not the good kind of info either. But not this person’s fault for sharing it this way – this was her method of reaching most of the family. I understood. But my attitude caught the brunt of it. Oh, then one of my co-workers called in and guess who was stuck doing some of this person’s work!

I tried to shake loose my tude that was down in the dumps. I couldn’t. I eventually gave in to my bitterness. I had to bite my tongue with a few of my customers. Maybe I had a target on my head that said “annoy her here.”  Then at the end of the day, I thought my mood would lift.

It did. But just in time for me to get home and learn that the wi-fi in the house was on the fritz and was screwing up all our cells, the cable, and the house phone. Grrrr!!!! Yeah, AT&T man, you didn’t fix it. I was thoroughly pissed now. And I hate writing at length on my laptop. I only use the laptop when I’m away from my PC. *Do I sound whiny enough?*

My day had been horrible! Nothing went right. And just as I was crawling in to bed, a thought hit me. I had twitted first thing that morning that I had sat myself a writing quota for the week. I hadn’t even been able to write one sentence – let alone get anywhere near what I was supposed to write.

I know you’re tired of me moaning and complaining…I’m off my soapbox. I just needed to vent. Today, I might add, was no where near as terrible as yesterday. How has your week been so far?

TOTAL RANDOMNESS

I couldn’t think of anything witty and smart to say so I decided to talk about what’s been going on in my life. I’m not a superstar so my life isn’t glammed out but it is mine. I’m not the most interesting person in the world but who is…

  1. My daughter is going to Prom tonight. Kids grow up so fast. It seems like just yesterday I was sending her off to high school. I remember her saying not too long ago, "I'm not worried about guys, Mom. I'm concentrating on my grades so I can get into a good college." Where'd that girl go! She’s been dating a senior on the football team all year. They went to Homecoming and I thought, yeah, this won’t last long. I was wrong. I guess now I’m trying to see what will happen for her senior year next year.
  1. I’m babysitting a toddler. My brother-in-law and his wife are going out for the weekend and asked if I could watch my adorable nephew. I fawn over him every time he comes to the house. He is the cutest little man I’ve seen in a long time. But he also cries a lot – mainly for his Daddy. And the biggest concern I have….he’s not potty trained. Guh! All the adorableness in the world can’t make up for a full diaper.
  1. I’ve recently finished editing one of my WIPs and instead of sending it out to the slouch pile, I’ve been thinking about self-publishing. This is an older manuscript I took a break from to write another manuscript and now I’ve reworked it. I sent it to agents but got a lot of “this just isn’t for me” and “I like what you are trying to do here but I don’t think this is for me”…Grrr I haven’t sent it out to publishers yet though and I’m wondering if I should do this before I try to self-pub it.
What’s been going on in your world? Anything interesting you want to share.

Really Exciting News

Made you look.

Yes, I know you almost fell over when you saw I'd actually posted something. I know, I'm terrible. The only good thing I can report is that I have actually been writing. Just not at the blog. My bad. I hadn't even had the time to post comments to some of my favorite blogs like, Kelly Hashway's blog, or LM Preston's blog, Jessie Harrel's blog - okay, there's too many to list here.

But I feel disconnected from the writing world and I don't like it. The blog, SheWrites, and YALitChat helped me to feel connected to things. I don't like this feeling and want to get back that old feeling I had. No I'm not about to start singin' but I am determined to not stay away for so long. I promise. So, I'll post something a couple times a week..even if it's only: "Hey. I feel like crap. Hope your week is better than mine."

I'm Back!!!!

OMG, I found my way back to the blog. LOL Sorry I took a much-needed sabbatical. But I have still been busy writing, getting educated, and living. So what have I been up to:

 1.   Getting the house ready for the holidays. My youngest daughter has been harassing me everyday about hanging the lights outside since we already decorated the inside of the house. She greets me at the door when I come from work and gives me the evil eye…come on if you have a daughter you know the look.

2.   I was supposed to start querying on Nov. 20th but I didn’t. I chickened out…sort of. I just felt the MS needed something else. It’s been critiqued to death and beta read a few times, but I feel I’m missing something. Do you ever get that feeling? Anyway, until I feel differently I’m not sending it out.

3.   I threw away the last of the Pecan Pie from Thanksgiving that was not eaten. Thank God Thanksgiving is over with. I had been doing so well – eating healthy and all. My co-workers actually think I’m a really healthy eater. I have them fooled. I ate so much on Thanksgiving that I might as well have ate all the donuts and breakfast taco’s they offered – I ate as many calories in one day to equal about 2 months of donuts and tacos! So sad.

4.   Umm…starting to think about what I want for Christmas. I think I’ll do a separate post on this. LOL, yeah, it’s that much.

Random Tidbits...

Okay, my new schedule is kicking my...

So I thought I'd share what I've been up to the past few weeks. Life has been pretty hectic. Not that it's not always so but it has been even more.

1. I'm getting acclimated to my new job. It has been difficult. I haven't worked in some time now so I am adjusting horribly. LOL Well, I'm trying but going to sleep at 1 in the am is probably not a good thing when you wake at 5 am.

2. I found a TV show that seems promising: Terra Nova. I can't wait to see how this story progresses. I'm not a huge TV watcher so I'm kinda of excited. My last fav TV show was Lost. The only problem: I've been so busy I haven't had time to watch it at its regular time slot. Thank God for DVR and my secretive family. They won't spill the beans.

3. I've been writing a lot in a writing journal. I've never really did it before but when I take lunch at work the last thing I want to do is look at another computer. So I've been writing long hand. I like it. Didn't think I would though. Wish my fingers luck.

4. I'm working on the end of my high fantasy story. And I might be a little biased but it is coming along nicely. I'm super excited about this story. LOL, I'm excited about every story I write.

Randomness...

I’m tired. I’m hungry. And I’ve been up all night. So today’s post are random tidbits about what’s been going on with me:

1.  The kids went back to school yesterday. I have three – a 10th grader, sixth grader, and a third grader. The hubby’s conveniently gone away on business. Yeah, I was up all night signing papers. I can’t remember any more why I was excited about them going back.

2.  I’m adding extra villainous traits to my villain/antagonist in my current WIP at the suggestion of my CP. You can never have a villain that is evil enough. Right now, this pen and paper to my right with my children’s names on them are the most evil, loathsome, inhumane things I’ve seen in a while.

3.  I’m so ready to stop editing I want to smack someone. Of course, I’m practicing patience. But the hubby better watch out around the 18th of every month. That’s all I’ve got to say about that…

4.  Pleasantly surprised about a new movie I’ve heard about, Magic Mike. Yeah, I know that title is something else, huh. It stares Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello, and Matt Bomer. I could probably watch with the volume turned down. I’m wondering though, I usually see movies with the hubby, but I’m thinking he might not like this one too much.

5.  I’m thinking of writing a MG story. I haven’t decided yet, but I have a short story I never completed – I fell in love with the characters. A female protagonist who kicks some major butt and a nerd on a special mission- umm I’m thinking. Not sure right now all I can think about with any real clarity is snuggly up in my bed.

What are you up to? Let everyone know in the comments.

Random Musings of a YA Paranormal/Sci-Fi/Fantasy writer/mother/cook/pasta lover...

I have three WIPs that I need to work on. It's a tough job with all my other responsibilities but I'm getting it done. Well not without a little hair lost and insomnia. I've been thinking about my WIPs - here are my thoughts:

  1. I’m editing my WIP, on Chapter 15 of 27. I think these are the final edits. I’ve had 2 beta readers – early on before I started editing. I’ve went through one complete critique with one partner and now I’m working on another session with another partner. Now the only thing I need is two new beta readers and I’m done. Yay, baby!!!!

  1. My other WIP is at 56,000 – I’m almost finished. Yayjdfdf  *sorry, I was doing my happy dance and I accidently hit the keys. I’m so uncoordinated.* Once I finish the draft of this WIP, I’m going back to my first book and edit it. I can’t wait my first story is by far my fav.

  1. I’m having trouble with one scene – one of the last scenes in my current edit. It is where my protag is supposed to kick the stuffing out of the antagonist. She’s female and he’s male, and they both have extraordinary power. It’s an important scene and I don’t want to goof it up.

  1. I was really inventive with the WIP I’m currently editing. I’ve created another world and made up names for all kinds of stuff. Like, a special chemical toxin in the air, a cooking apparatus, the unlawful people of that world, the type of clothes they wear… And science plays a part in the overall story…actually without the science part the story wouldn’t sound right. Well early on, someone classified my story as paranormal – I had no problem with this, as I love the genre. But it never sat well with me. But out of all my stories, I would classify this one as more paranormal than the others. Anyone else have a similar problem? I’ve decided to query it as paranormal –whenever that happens- and let the agent/publisher decide the final genre.

  1.  My current draft is getting down to the last couple of scenes but I’m having trouble. My protag has been in another dimension for a while. But now she has returned home – to her surprise – but there is something she must do in the other dimension. She is desperately trying to get back to that place. I’m having a hard time getting her back. Grrrr…I can’t explain it. I have an outline but I deviated from it at one pivotal scene. Why? Oh, because I lost 100 pages (in the middle of the story- not the beginning) and had to start over and when I did, that scene came out different and changed the ending of the story. I still can’t figure out why she can’t go back…she has to. I’m kicking her scrawny behind out the door today. I will not go to sleep tonight until I have her back where she needs to be.

  1. How many keyboards do writers go through? I never thought about that much until I started seriously writing. My keyboard (merely a tot at two years) is worn out. Many of the keys are rubbed off so you don’t know what letter you’re typing. Well since I can type, it’s not a problem for me. And the hubby has a lap-top.  But the kids- who are using my computer until theirs is repaired – complain about it. Funny problem to have, huh? I never hear any other people with this complaint. I never even noticed the letters were rubbed off until the Telephone man came and was looking at the computer and said, “Wow, someone has been doing a lot of typing. The keys are rubbed off.”

Totally Random

Today I feel a little random. So I'm going to totally ramble here:

I’m learning about the world of myths in school right now. Can you say “so excited.” I love the world of mythology! Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, Theseus, Herakles…Yeah, I’m partial to Greek mythology. But I’m starting to broaden my taste.

I totally sucked at the Read-a-Thon last week. The timing just ended up being off and I didn’t read nearly as much as I usually did. I’m trying to make up for it – somewhat. But I was serious about pacing myself (not during a Read-a-thon, of course). I need to slow down a little when I read. I’m trying. LOL Hard.

I’m reading Maximum Ride by James Patterson and A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks (I know I was supposed to read the Sparks book for the Read-a-Thon but I didn’t get to it). Love both stories – very different though. Since there’s absolutely nothing on TV to watch, I’ll be reading until The Vampire Diaries comes back on in the fall. Not a bad trade for time though.

I just bought six books on Amazon last week. I'm eyeing four more. Help me: I have an addiction.

It’s raining, finally. It hasn’t rained in a while. I was starting to get nervous. They banned fireworks this year so we’re forced to go to the Festival to see them because of the drought. That’s a bummer!

My revisions for The Chloe Chronicles are coming along really well. I can’t wait to finish, but I’m not rushing it. I learned my lesson about rushing revisions.

I’m going to eat a bowl of Chocolate Shredded Wheat now. Yeah, it’s good.
What’s happening with you today? Anything interesting to share? Leave it in the comments.

    Blogger Issues...Grrrr!!!!! And Randomness

I've been having major issues with Blogger. I can't leave a comment on my own blog. I couldn't even leave comments on other blogger sites for a while also - and I read some awesome posts that I wanted to comment on. No fair. **slams fist on computer desk (ouch)** I've been trying to wait until it's fixed to post. But it's taking forever. Seriously!!!!

Anyway, I've been editing my WIP, The Chloe Chronicles and reading (of course). I am so thrilled with the revisions I could kiss the computer. Chloe is coming to life before my eyes and I'm loving it. Developing my characters personality was very important to me and has been a major focus of my revisions. My main character, Chloe, is the coolest 16 year old I know!!!!

I just finished reading, If I Stay by Gayle Forman and can't wait to read the sequel, Where She Went. It was a great book!!!! It was moving, romantic, and poetic. After I read the sequel I'm going to read, Delirium by Lauren Oliver. Can't wait to tear into it.

Yesterday evening my youngest daughter and I sat down to watch E.T. together - just the two of us. In the end, she was curled up on my lap watching it. During the credits, she looked up at me and said, "Mom, I know this movie is fake." I smiled. Oh, I think, my baby is really growing up. She is 8 after all, I remind myself. Then she looks at me and says, "Yeah, Mom, because I know that aliens don't really dress up like girls and talk." My baby is back!

Have a great day!!! Read a book and laugh.

    Blog Hop and Randomness

Hello, fellow She Writers!!! Glad you could stop by:

Welcome to the SheWrites Blogger Ball!

I thought I'd list some random things about my family and myself and offer a writing tip.

    1. I have a teenage daughter. She recently came to us (the hubby and I) and wanted permission to date. So, you can imagine what my life is like right now!!!
    2. My youngest daughter (8) is a total diva. She often looks at me crazy when I suggest clothes or hairstyles that she doesn't like. Seriously, I can't understand whose child she actually is. She's been picking out her own clothes since she was 2.
    3. My husband is a hoot. He keeps me laughing and that's probably the biggest reason I keep him around. Oh, and the help with the kids is invaluable.
    4. My family and I love playing card games, especially Phase 10.
    5. My oldest daughter (15) is in love with Casey Abrams from American Idol. Seriously. She loves music and singing and she says he is the best "artist" on the show. Ever.
    6. My favorite TV show of all time is "Lost." Of all times, no others even come close.
    7. I think I have a super power. Seriously. I do. It hasn't fully materialized, but its there, lying dormant until the moment that I need it the most.

    Okay, now for my tip.

Pacing is very important in your novel. If done right it can transform your work. I know that many people aren't fans of Stephanie Meyers, Twilight, but I am. For the simplest reason of all - the pacing was great. She didn't give everything away in chapter 2. No, she made you wait and languish over what would happen. Will they end up together or not? Another great YA novel that has awesome pacing is The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins (my favorite YA book- right now). Study both books and you can learn a lot about pacing. Even if your not a fan of either - you can read to learn.

The thing about pacing is it keeps your reader engaged. If you give everything away in the first chapter, what are they to keep reading for? Give them hints of what's to come (foreshadowing) but don't give away the big moment. And don't just give us one big moment. Give us a couple. Each time make the stakes even bigger and make us bite our nails with anticipation over how the MC is going to solve/get out of this one.

Pacing people...it’s the star of the show.

Have a great day. Read a book and laugh!!!

    Blog Award

I received this award from awesome Jennifer over at Serendipity's Library. I am to thank the person who gave me the award - check. Provide a link to their site - check. Write seven things about myself - check, see below. Get ready to be dazzled and delighted by yours truly - check.
    1. I love chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I'm not a chocolate lover by itself though.
    2. I moonlight as a supermodel and I have three obnoxiously beautiful kids. Okay, just joking, they're not that good looking.
    3. When I was younger I read books that were highly inappropriate for my age. While other little girls were sneaking to play with their Barbie's I was reading Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews under my bed. A book I stole from a cousin.
